Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
9/5/2010
In today’s reading from Luke the Lord wants to give us a grace that exceeds even the love of a parent, a spouse, or a child. The kind of detachment that Jesus calls for creates in us the desire that disposes us to receive all that God is eager to give us.
Since “the earthen shelter weighs down the mind that has many concerns,” the Lord insists that we carry our own cross. For that cross separates us from anything that conforms us to our own inadequate ideas and measures so that we can follow Christ faithfully.
